How did my back get into such bad shape?!
Woman stretchingMany people of all different ages come to our office every year with that same question. We ask them to take a few moments to think about what you ask your back to do every day. Especially if you participate in athletics now or did a lot in the past, you have asked your back to take on a lot of stress.

Does that mean that we shouldn’t do sports? No, it does mean however that if you do participate in sports that it is even more important to take care of your body. Whether you are twisting your back while swinging a golf club, doing a back handspring with a split or colliding with another player while trying to kick a soccer ball your head, neck and back experience a trauma.

While doing these sporting activities the trauma experienced may cause a vertebra (the bones that make up the spinal column) or several vertebra to get shifted out of position (misaligned) in relationship to the one above or the one below it.

Fortunately most times your body corrects these misalignments. Sometimes it doesn’t and they heal and settle into the wrong position. When they get “stuck” in a misaligned position, they can irritate the nerves which exit the spinal column at that spinal level. This can cause pain not only at that spinal level but can also cause pain to radiate away from the spine down the leg, down the arm or up into the head, as headaches, depending upon which nerve is irritated.

Many professional athletes seek chiropractic care since they need to perform at a very high level of efficiently.

Improving Alignment

Chiropractic treatment not only is effective for restoring proper alignment and function to the spine, it is also utilized to improve overall alignment of all parts of the body, the shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers along with the jaw, hips, knees and ankles. Proper alignment not only helps your skeletal frame perform better it also helps it last longer.

Improving joint alignment reduces the possibility of degenerative arthritis and reduces the symptoms of arthritis if arthritis is already present.

Life is movement and if movement is limited, life is limited.
