Your AMAZING Body for Kids: The Urinary System PLUS Coloring Page

Kid dressed as superhero

Our friend Dr Mackenzie tells us all about how amazing our bodies are inside! This month, she has the inside scoop on your AMAZING Urinary System. It is made of your kidneys, bladder, and all the tubes that connect them. Your two kidneys filter your blood and pull out stuff you don’t want in there anymore. Then it passes that waste to your bladder. Your bladder holds the waste, called urine, until you go to the bathroom. That’s why it’s called the Urinary System. Pretty simple, right?

But there’s more! Your kidneys contain miles of filtering tubes all coiled up. This lets the kidneys make sure your body has the right balance of water and salts. And they keep your blood pressure just right, too. They filter over 40 gallons of blood a day. Pretty helpful!

Your bladder is like a balloon that can stretch as it fills. It can hold about 2 cups of urine. It has special nerves that tell your brain when it’s full. Getting adjusted by Dr Lisa can help your nervous system communicate its best.

Take Care of Your Amazing Body

Maybe today, try paying attention to every time you take a drink of water and go to the bathroom. Think about how long the water takes to work its way through your system, filtering and traveling through all those tubes. See if your body is telling you it wants you to drink more water. Your body is taking care of you, so you want to make sure you are taking good care of it, too!

Read Dr Mackenzie’s full article at this link, and print out the coloring page at the bottom. If you color it and bring it into the office on a future visit to Dr Lisa, we’ll proudly hang it up by our front desk for everyone to enjoy. Read more
